Title: Re-Engineering Engineering for the Next Era of IC Design

Abstract

The semiconductor industry is at a pivotal inflection point, with analysts estimating it to become a trillion-dollar market fueled by the insatiable computational demands of generative and agentic AI, autonomous vehicles, and the intelligent edge. This explosion in demand creates unprecedented challenges for chip design. As we push semiconductor design into the Angstrom era, the complexity of verification, implementation, and system integration is growing at never-before-seen pace. Traditional design flows, while foundational, are being stretched to their limits, necessitating a fundamental re-evaluation of our tools and methodologies. We are moving from designing individual chips to engineering holistic, intelligent systems where hardware, software, and multi-physics challenges are inextricably linked. This keynote will illustrate how the path forward requires "re-engineering" the entire design lifecycle, from silicon to system. We will explore a future where AI is not just the primary workload but also a critical partner in the design process itself. We will discuss key trends and future projections for computing, memory, and interconnects, looking ahead to 2030 and beyond. The presentation will cover the evolution of the EDA flow, highlighting the critical need for advanced IP subsystems, hyper-converged verification platforms, and AI-driven digital implementation for optimal power and performance.

Bio

Dr. Sabya Das is an accomplished Executive Director in the EDA software industry, boasting over 25 years of experience in FPGA, ASIC, and PCB design. He has a proven track record in managing multi-site R&D teams and has successfully built teams from the ground up. With 30 approved patents and 20 co-authored publications, he is a recognized thought leader in his field. Dr. Das currently leads multiple R&D teams at Synopsys, focusing on the ZeBu Emulation Platform, with team members distributed across the USA, Taiwan, France, and India. His technical expertise spans various domains, including algorithms, cloud computing, and software development. He is also actively involved in the research community, serving in leadership roles at prominent conferences. Dr. Das's innovative approach and strategic vision have significantly contributed to advancements in semiconductor design and EDA tools. Dr. Das holds a Ph.D. from the University of Colorado Boulder, and a MS degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
